Movies you should see, but maybe never thought of watching.

Happy #MovieMonday

Post-graduation has left me with some more than needed spare time, so I thought I would catch up on books and films that I have been wanting to see. As well as being a little more adventurous and open minded when picking films. Netflix has been a helpful tool in the process, guiding me in obscure directions with it's ridiculously specific categories that go beyond Recently Added. Generally, my appeal to unknown films are enhanced by the interesting poster display or title, but for these selections, I just dove right in with having only read a sentence of the synopsis. Having free time really gives you the freedom to do stuff you wouldn't normally do. I was just interested in going beyond my mainstream favorites and test out a few new movies that kept popping up in my Neflix feed.

This batch of films are mainly independent that range from sci-fi, erotic drama, thriller, and fantasy. Click the title of each movie for a link to their trailers. Enjoy

Cast: Jim Sturgess, Kirsten Dunst, Timothy Spall
Director: Juan Solanas
Released: 2012
Synopsis: Adam (Sturgess) falls in love with Eden (Dunst) but they are both from different worlds, separated by opposite gravitational pulls. Ten years after their last encounter, Adam finds Eden and sets out on a journey to restore their lost connection.
My Review: Although Rotten Tomatoes and other sources have given this film somewhat low ratings, I think it deserves more credit. It is like a futuristic vision of Romeo and Juliet but with an interesting and thought provoking concept of two parallel worlds. It is definitely not a low budget film ($50 Million), and you can definitely see where the production value goes…cinematography and effects! I can agree the script was woefully dull but the visual elements really brought the film to a whole new level. I highly recommend this film, especially if you are interested in romantic stories or mind bending, sci-fi imagery.

Duchess of Cambridge

So I have been recently seeing photos of Kate Middleton after she gave birth to Prince George of Cambridge. And let me just say, she is looking fabulous! Especially after giving birth, she looks so healthy and has a glistening glow.

After seeing her most recent photos, it made me realize how I have always been a fan of her fashion. I then went on a search to find her stylist but I have yet to prevail. So instead of racking my brain around who styles this amazing woman, I decided to just bask in the glory of her beautifulness and distract myself by looking at random events and functions she has attended throughout the years.

#fashionfriday

One of my new favorite fashion designers is Alon Livne. Coming from Isreal, he has gained a lot of recognition on Europe at such a young age. People like this inspire me everyday, especially those who are so talented. His silhouettes are beautiful, trendy modern with a touch of vintage elegance. Unfortunately a lot of his garnets would not work well with my body figure but either way, they are works of art. I highly suggest checking out his website and collections.

His Spring/Summer 2012 is one of my favorite collections:

Gaining Graphic Design Skills

So I recently remembered that I had acquired the new Adobe CS6, thanks to the licensing agreement UC Berkeley has with them (I GET IT FOR FREE!). One of my friends is trying to start up a business and has asked me to input some logo designs. "Of course,” I said and right away started to brain storm some ideas. I have only been using photoshop because that is one of the only programs I have learned but thought I would test out Illustrator. So I did what any normal 21st century person would do and Googled how to use Illustrator. I came across some handy tutorials and decided to take a whack at one of the designs.

Stayed up till 2 in the morning and this is what my final product:

Original Website’s Version vs. My Version:

So I decided that I wanted to create my own image, with no tutorial and just use the skills I had just learned doing the bunny. Although I did use some of the same techniques to make the bunny, I tried to create my own original design. I thought I did a pretty good job. Now I have some creative juices flowing and I am excited to explore this software. Here is the Elephant I create, what do you think?

10 New Goals

10 New Goals

Here are my top 10 goals I currently have:

  1. Stay up to date with this blog….
  2. Sell one of my photographs.
  3. Finally put together my website for my photography.
  4. Join CrossFit.
  5. Finish reading the first book of Game of Thrones that I had started earlier this year.
  6. Break my 40 mile cycling record to above 50 miles.
  7. Knit something awesome (maybe a geometric headband or a sweater for my sisters dog).
  8. Catch up on the Walking Dead.
  9. Finally walked the Golden Gate Bridge (perhaps I should wait till after winter but oh wait, its California…)
  10. Become best friends with all my professors, they are all so awesome.

So I don’t like to give myself deadlines because I procrastinate more and stress out over something that is just for fun. But given my crazy schedule while I am in school, I hope to cross off half of these before the Spring semester starts, which is January 22 (only a few days before my birthday!)

Wish me luck!

New Post with a New Look

Hello internet world!

It has been a while, I know. Life has been hectic and I have a never ending list of to do’s. But I finally have been able to update and bring back to life my website/blog!! I am excited with the changes I have made. I have reverted back to Blogger, which is cheaper and less time consuming so I can focus on my posts and not constructing the website itself each time I want to post something. My goal with this new blog is not just to post interesting stuff that is happening in my life, but to share interesting and useful things with all of you! I have developed an interest in DIY projects, so at some point I will have a page dedicated solely for that. I’ll also be sharing other interesting blogs and website that I believe are worth sharing! The internet is a crazy and mysterious place but never lacking in creative minds.

I only have 2 days left of summer school so once that is officially over, I will be spending more time on here. If you notice, below I still have all my old post from over a year ago about my adventures in Europe. I was originally going to delete them but I thought I could leave them up for nostalgia purposes and something for all the viewers to look at until I have post more recent stuff. Suggestions are always appreciated as well! Any questions or concerned to hesitate to email me, link located on the right sidebar. I’ll leave you with some recent photos I have taken, thanks to Instagram and my iPhone!
